The short version

  • Cheapest: FDA-approved generic sildenafil through Ro, from $4 a dose.1
  • Closest to BlueChew GOLD: other compounded sublingual combinations, including Rugiet Ready, Super Strut and Quattro.2,3,4
  • Only option with all three PDE5 inhibitors plus apomorphine: Quattro.4
  • Refunds: BlueChew does not accept returns on prescription treatments.5

BlueChew made ED treatment less awkward with chewable tablets, and its newer GOLD product is a sublingual combination. BlueChew says GOLD contains sildenafil, tadalafil, apomorphine and oxytocin in three strengths, priced from about $7.30 to $18.28 a dose.6 All of BlueChew's products are compounded rather than generic versions of FDA-approved drugs.7

If you want a different format, a lower price or a different formula, these are the alternatives worth knowing about.

If price is the priority

Plain generics are the cheapest route by a wide margin. Ro lists generic sildenafil at $4 to $10 a dose and daily generic tadalafil at $8 a dose.1 These are FDA-approved generics, the same active ingredients as Viagra and Cialis. For how the two differ in timing and food effects, see our guide to the three ED medications.

If you want a combination like GOLD

Combination products try to cover more than one base in a single dose. The main differences are which medications they include:

Quattro is the only one that includes all three PDE5 inhibitors. Evidence on combining PDE5 inhibitors suggests a modest benefit in some men, but the research is limited and the Cialis label notes combinations have not been studied, so this is a decision for a clinician.16,17 Apomorphine, which several of these include, acts on arousal in the brain rather than on blood flow; trials show it outperforms placebo, with nausea as the most common side effect.18,19

Refund policies

Most providers treat prescription ED medication as a final sale. BlueChew does not accept returns on prescription treatments, though it says it will try to address concerns.5 Ro, Rugiet, Strut and Henry have similar policies.8,13,14,15 Quattro does not offer a money-back guarantee either, but its card is charged only after a clinician approves the prescription.

Considering Quattro?

Quattro is a compounded sublingual dose combining sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil and apomorphine, prescribed only after a licensed clinician reviews your health history. It starts at $115 for a 10-dose month.

Sponsored. Quattro is compounded by a state-licensed 503A pharmacy for an individual patient. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and have not been reviewed by the FDA for safety or effectiveness. Prescription required; subject to clinician approval.

Important safety information. PDE5 inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil) must not be taken with nitrates in any form, including nitroglycerin, and need caution with alpha-blockers.20 The most common side effects are headache and flushing.20 An erection lasting more than four hours needs emergency care.17 Apomorphine commonly causes nausea, especially at higher doses.19 Only a licensed clinician who knows your health history and medications should decide whether any of these are safe for you.
